Lloyd Parks is an influential Jamaican bass player, singer, and producer, known for his central role in the history of reggae. He began his musical career in the 1960s as part of the duo The Termites, alongside Wentworth Vernal, achieving success with the song «Have Mercy Mr. Percy,» produced by Coxsone Dodd.
Later, Parks founded his own record label, Parks, through which he released several solo recordings, including popular songs like «Officially,» «Mafia,» and «Slaving,» noted for his melodic voice and conscious lyrics.
As a bassist, Lloyd Parks is a studio legend. He was a member
of seminal bands such as Skin, Flesh and Bones, and The Revolutionaries,
in addition to forming his own band, We the People Band, which
became a backing band for renowned artists at festivals such
as Reggae Sunsplash.
His bass guitar is featured on reggae classics like Culture’s «Baldhead Bridge,» Dennis Brown’s «Cassandra,» The Abyssinians’ «This Land,» Dennis Brown’s «Money in My Pocket»…hit after hit after hit.
His distinctive style, with solid bass lines,
helped define the sound of roots reggae in the 1970s.
